Experimental determination of physicochemical properties of „green solvents“: alkyl carbonates and ionic liquids

In this work the systematic study of the thermodynamic properties of the prospective “green solvents” has been performed.

This work has been undertaken in order to obtain data on thermodynamic properties of alkyl carbonates and to develop the group additivity values necessary for predicting their standard enthalpies of formation and enthalpy of vaporization at the reference temperature T = 298.15 K.

The chemical equilibrium of the reactive system (benzene+alkyl benzenes) was studied in the liquid phase in presence of ionic liquids as heterogeneous catalysts. Reaction enthalpies in the liquid phase were obtained. For comparison, these reaction enthalpies have been calculated using ab initio methods. Characteristics of micellation processes of ionic liquids with longer cationic alkyl chains in polar solvents have been obtained using precision titration calorimetry. Activity coefficients at infinite dilution of organic substances have been determined by gas chromatography using the ionic liquids as stationary phase.
