On the basis of empirical studies, dealing with pedagogical and didactical questions regarding pupil’s work in laboratories outside school, a conception was deduced to invent a new pupil’s laboratory (MariSchool) at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research. A first subject area dealing with carbon dioxide was conceived. For this subject area, which is scientifically and socially relevant as well as important in school, materials for classes and five lab days were conceptualized.
Apart from describing the contents that the pupils are dealing with during their days in the lab and the frequentation of the offered lab days, results of questioning to evaluate the conception of the lab are given.
Results of the questioning are proposals in order to improve the connection of inner and outer school learning with the goal to enhance scientific literacy.
