This thesis presents the realization and the establishment of the first base-free catalytic Wittig reactions utilizing commercially available tri-n-butylphosphane or readily available 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-phospholene-1-oxide as catalyst and precatalyst, respectively. The catalytic systems based on the in situ reduction of the phosphane oxide and phospholene oxide by using a suitable silane for continously regenerating of the active organocatalysts. The developed reaction shows high chemoselectivity so that functionalized olefins were obtained in good to excellent isolated yields up to 99%. The products were synthesized with high E/Z selectivities up to 99:1.

The second part of this thesis shows the selective reduction of tertiary phosphane oxides using the BrØnsted acid trifluoromethanesulfonic acid as active catalyst. A wide range of phosphane oxides, even functionalized, could be reduced chemoselectively and the phosphanes were obtained in yields up to ≥99%. The synthesized products were predominantly isolated as corresponding phosphane borane adducts in good to excellent yields up to ≥99%.
