Carbonylative Transformations of Alkyl-Carbon Electrophiles

This dissertation is mainly focused on the development of a novel strategy for the activation of alkyl amines into carbon electrophiles and the applications to carbonylation reactions with various nucleophiles. Alkyl amines are important structural units in chemical transformations, which can participate in reactions not only as nucleophiles, but also as carbon electrophiles through the cleavage of C-N bonds. Different from the relatively mature activation methods for alkyl C-I/Br/O bonds, the strategies to achieve the cleavage of alkyl C-N bonds are very limited. Here, we developed a strategy for the activation of alkyl amines by using DBU to promote the cleavage of Katritzky salts. Subsequently, using styrene as the coupling partner under transition-metal-free conditions, this strategy was successfully applied to the carbonylation reaction for the synthesis of unsaturated ketones. Furthermore, we also developed the deaminative carbonylation reaction of alkyl amines with phenols and thiophenols by converting alkyl amines to carbon electrophiles under mild conditions.
