Iron- and Copper-Catalyzed Carbonylative Transformations

The dissertation is mainly concerned with iron- and copper-catalyzed carbonylation and coupling reactions. For carbonylation reactions, we focus on nitrogen-centered radical-mediated conversions via intramolecular cyclization and intermolecular carbonylation. First, a copper-catalyzed carbonylative cyclization is shown to synthesize various β-homoprolines. Then, an iron-catalyzed carbonylative cyclization of γ,δ-unsaturated aromatic oxime esters with alcohols or amides is reported. In addition, a copper-catalyzed carbonylation of γ,δ-unsaturated aromatic oxime esters with amides is presented, and further iron- and copper-catalyzed coupling reactions are shown. A method for the iron-catalyzed cyclization of aromatic oxime esters to produce dihydronaphthalinones is shown. Finally, copper-catalyzed borylative cyclization of γ,δ-unsaturated aromatic oxime esters with bis(pinacolato)diborone is also achieved, and a variety of α-(borylmethyl)pyrrolidines are constructed via intermolecular boronation and intramolecular amination.
