In this cumulative dissertation, the results of investigations of the synthesis of hexanuclear niobium and tantalum cluster coordination compounds with iodido and alcoholato ligands are presented. Using solid-state chemical reactions, starting material cluster compounds are produced and converted to new cluster compounds in solvent-based reaction systems. This leads to ligand substitutions of the inner and/or outer ligand spheres. From reactions of cluster iodides in strongly basic reaction media novel Nb6 an Ta6 cluster alkoxides of the general form [M6Xi12Xa6]n- (M = Nb, Ta; Xi = Cl, OCH3, OC2H5, OC3H7; Xa = Cl, I, OCH3; n = 0, 1, 2) are obtained. Particularly noteworthy is the formation of 13 CBE cluster complexes, the synthesis of cluster isopropanolates and a double-cluster compound, which combines both the cluster types [M6X8] and [M6X12] in the same compound. Furthermore, three compounds of the very rare niobium [M6X8] structure type with [Nb6Xi8Xa6]n- cluster anions (Xi = I; Xa = Py, OCH3; n = 0, 1, 2) in different oxidation states are isolated. Compounds with different cluster oxidation states are obtained just by applying different reaction temperatures. Despite the large known diversity of hexanuclear Nb and Ta cluster complexes, targeted and high yield syntheses of 15 or 14 CBE clusters are hardly explored. The compounds [Nb6Cl12I6]n- (n = 2, 3) are prepared from a 16 CBE cluster starting compound. According to the synthesis of suitable starting material cluster iodides, novel aqua ligated cluster compounds of the form [M6Xi12(H2O)6]I2 (M = Nb, Ta; Xi = Cl, I) and [Nb6Cl12I2(H2O)4]·8THF are isolated. In addition to the description of the structures and the chemical and physical characterization, investigations of the redox behaviour and the occurrence of unusual oxidation states were carried out. A crucial contribution could be made by coordination of cluster units by O-donor ligands. Synthetic routes and methods to increase the reactivity of cluster complexes are also presented. Activation of the starting material using a ball mill turned out to be particularly useful.
