The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNF) combines the subjects of biosciences, chemistry, mathematics and physics. The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW), the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in Kühlungsborn and the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT) in Rostock are affiliated to the faculty.

Research and teaching at the MNF are characterised by a high level of application and numerous interdisciplinary collaborations. For this reason, the MNF is closely integrated into the Interdisciplinary Faculty (INF) at the University of Rostock.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers more than 2,000 students a high-quality course of study in the classical mathematical and scientific based subjects of biosciences, chemistry, mathematics and physics. There are 5 Bachelor's degree courses, 11 Master's degree courses and the respective teacher training programmes. The Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research works closely with the MNF to further develop the quality of teacher training and strengthen educational research.

More than 400 scientists, including 56 professors, research and teach at the MNF. This offers our students excellent qualification opportunities in numerous specialisations in modern natural sciences and modern mathematics, which are of great importance for industry and research. Studying at our strongly research-oriented faculty also benefits from the participation of our scientists in numerous national and international research networks.

So welcome to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Rostock, whether for a course of study or research work!
